Safran-krydderiet bliver også kaldt 'Det røde guld' og det er ikke uden grund. Det fine tørrede støvfang er nemlig det dyreste krydderi i verden. Safran har en sød, mild og eksotisk duft og smag - lidt som honning eller sirup. Krydderiet bruges både i bagværk men også i skønne fiske-, skaldyrs- og risretter. Krydderiet afgiver ikke kun en god smag, men giver også hvad det tilsættes, den karakteristiske gule farve. Af denne grund, har Safran også været anvendt som naturligt farvestof. 

Det er endda en slags parfume, som vores profet (fred være med ham) sagde.

Safran er stamperne af safrankrokus (blomst) den kommer hovedsageligt fra Iran og Marokko.

Vores safran er førsteklasses kvalitet fra Iran, den har en vidunderlig duft, der kan duftes på afstand.

Safran kommer fra krokusblomsten Crocus Sativa, der kun blomstrer om efteråret. Blomsterne hvori støvfanget, der bliver til Safran, sidder skal håndplukkes og tørres. Efter høsten bruges mellem 75.000 og 100.000 kilo blomster til at fremstille blot 1 kilo af det fantastiske og dyrebare krydderi.
